This role led to her becoming a household name however she was concerned that Mary Camden's image as an "good girl" could limit her ability to be a good actress. In order to change the perception, she appeared in the Gear cover, partially clothed. Jessica's act caused a lot of debate among her followers. The show she was on ended 7th Heaven after performing in its sixth season. Her acclaimed performance as a teenage Casey Jackson in the film Ulee's Gold brought her instant recognition. This movie won her the prize for best Supporting Female actor. Comedy film Summer Catch bears the proof of her amazing acting skills. In spite of her stellar performance in the Rules of Attraction her film did not receive much success. The public was then drawn by her character in The Texas Chainshaw Massacre.
